Since July 4th, 1777 Americans have been glued to the sky to watch fireworks in celebration of Independence Day. Though fireworks found their way to the west from China, the reason for our family barbecues and festivities is to celebrate the signing of The Declaration of Independence.
We have John Adams to thank for our July 4th festivities. Even before the Declaration was signed he wrote we needed to celebrate ” with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this time forward forever more.“
Canada celebrated their independence from Great Britain on July 1st. Celebrations are a part of our heritage and of life. I highly recommend celebrating personal accomplishments along the way as well. Without celebrations, we have little to look forward to. Once a project is completed, celebrate. Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, personal successes and graduations. Life without celebrations gives us no sense of accomplishment. Celebrate life! Celebrate love! But celebrate!
Whether you are with family, friends or alone, join in the festivities tonight and enjoy a day of celebration of life, country, and love. Drive safely and keep a careful watch over children in swimming pools and with sparklers. Enjoy your day and I wish you all a very happy Forth of July!
