Dragon Years
Every twelve years, we have a Dragon year. These years include 1916, 1928, 194, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, and now 2024. The last Wood Dragon year was in 1964. If you were around back then, you might remember what was happening; right before the US entered the Vietnam War and President Johnson signed the anti-segregation act, the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan Show. The world had plenty of unrest, from the Zanzibar Revolution to a Brazillian coup, which ended a dictatorship.
Currently, there seems to be unrest and the threat of war everywhere, from Israel to Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East.
Fictitious Animal?
Of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs, the Dragon is the only one with a “fictitious” and mystical creature. It is the fifth of the twelve signs, composed of 9 animals, including the body of a snake, a deer’s horns, an ox’s head, a crocodile’s mouth, an eagle’s claws, and a fish’s scales. The Dragon enjoys a rich and very high reputation in Chinese culture and has represented a promising Imperial power since ancient times.
Chinese people regard themselves as descendants of the Chinese dragon. Emporers used the Dragon symbol as a token of authority, dignity, honor, success, luck, and wealth.
How The Energy of This Year Will Help You
This year’s energy is a strong, vital energy of personal growth. There will be plenty of energy to make changes, which hasn’t been the case these past two years. Every action you take in 2024 will have a far greater impact than previously, as the energy is there to support action-takers! The action you take goes along with the wave of energy; hence you will find all kinds of support from the universe.
2023 was a year of chaotic energy. Think of how a rabbit moves when chased. Rabbits run erratically to escape their numerous predators. This dragon year is firey with a constant forward movement of energy.
What Works Against You
What goes against this supportive wave of energy is Criticism. We are meant to be loving towards ourselves and others. Criticism of ourselves makes us sick. Holding onto resentment and hatred of others only boomerangs back to ourselves. In 2024, criticism will be even more harmful than usual. Self-judgment is harmful to our health and happiness.
Self-punishment can cripple us and keep us from moving forward. Fortunately, there is someone who has recovered from this and is here to help you. You’ll find resources at the bottom of this article.
Words Have Power
How we speak about ourselves and others impacts us. In 2024, it is more important than ever to watch what words we say and ensure that we are not criticizing or speaking ill of anyone, including ourselves.
Speech
Truth spoken in beautiful, gentle words is imperative. Being honest with ourselves is important. Accepting ourselves as we are, being authentic in all our forms as we grow, and feeling strong as we go along will be your greatest support.
As important as our words can be in 2024, silence and not speaking will help you conserve energy. Talking all day long is exhausting. Take a day away once weekly to be in silence as an at-home retreat. Mantras can be used, whether out loud or silent, when we do a silent retreat. They don’t count as talking as they support our growth and expansion.
Conserving energy is one of the things that Buddha embodied. It is said that he only spoke to share a teaching or gratitude.
Ask Yourself The Following Before Speaking
Growth and Change
We need to look at life from approval rather than criticism. Allow your attitude to be “I am going to enjoy the people around me without judgment and grow from it all.” Remember, “I am not in this world to judge anyone else.” From a place of calm comes inner strength.
- Is it true?
- Is it helpful?
- Is it the right time to share?
- Will all beings benefit?
- What is my intention in sharing what I am thinking?
- Is what I want to say creating more beauty in the world?
In the Bhagavad Gita, if you speak badly of someone else, you take on their bad karma. Yet, if you speak kindly and lovingly of anyone you take on their good karma.
Everyone has a story and past experiences. These events happened. They did so for us to grow and move on from them as a catalyst to get us moving in the right direction. Part of our growth is trying new experiences, some of which we discover weren’t the best for us.
We all make mistakes every day.
Mistakes are not meant to take us down but to learn what not to do or what we can do better.
People make their own decisions about how they “should” or “shouldn’t live.” We all have lessons to learn. Once we recognize that everyone is in life together, we stop telling others how to be or live and what they need to change. We have to remember that no one can change another person, no matter how much we might want to.
Acceptance is the key to loving ourselves and everyone we meet.
Personal growth must be a constant for us to be happy and fulfilled. This year ensures growth and change, but it needs to be done thoughtfully, carefully, and strategically, whether at home or on the world stage.
Our growth needs to be planned and nurtured, a daily practice of going within, stillness, raising our awareness, and thinking outside the box. Stagnation and a sedentary lifestyle will bring illness and unrest.
I am feeling very positive and energized about this year and look forward to tremendous growth, balanced with meditation and learning with daily quiet time in nature. Discover what your soul needs by going within to find stillness for yourself.
Making changes alone can be daunting. If you need help and are ready to make 2024 the year that you fall in love with yourself and your life, become completely authentic, and end being reactive or derailed by life events. In that case, I offer an opportunity to discover if we are a good fit to work together. You can book your FREE transformation call here. Positive words make us feel better, improve our health and uplift spirits absolutely. I would not say they build our egos. As we evolve we are working to quiet the egoic (conditioned mind).
Yes you are affirming yourself! Which is great news.
Thank you Viki!
Love to you always!
